Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Taznakht – Foum Zguid – Lake Iriki (Erg Elmhazil)
Depart early in the morning by 4x4 from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. Cross the Atlas Mountains before arriving in Taznakht, a town renowned for its artisanal Berber carpet making. Drive to Foum Zguid, the last town before the Sahara, then head for the tracks of the legendary Paris-Dakar Rally.
On the agenda: discovering fossils, passing through the mountains in the shape of a tagine and exploring the dried-up Lake Iriki. You will share tea with Bedouin families for a moment of authentic interaction, before heading to the dunes of Lake Iriki. Settling in at the Les Nomades Bivouac, dinner, traditional music around the fire and sunset from the top of the dunes.
Day 2: Lake Iriki – Foum Zguid – Aït Benhaddou – Marrakech
After breakfast at the bivouac, depart for Foum Zguid and then pass through Taznakht. Then, head to the famous ksar of Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cross the High Atlas Mountains before reaching Marrakech at the end of the day.
